Biking with the Family

“Biking with the Family” is a great article written by Don A’Hern that describes the joy of spending time with your family in the outdoors and how to prepare for the journey. “You don’t need to spend a lot of money on fancy family activities; a simple bike ride to the park or bike ride in the country can be a fabulous way for the family to spend some quality time together.” This is a good article to read if you enjoy exercise in the outdoors while spending quality time with your family.

This article thoroughly explains how to have a fun trip with little to no stress. First, it gives tips on what to bring such as: a first aid kit, water bottles, snacks, and other important things you may want to pack. It also describes things you may need to do before the trip like planning your route so you don’t get lost or setting up rules such as how far someone can be ahead of the group. The article talks about how it is important to keep the happiness level up so that the trip is not ruined. There is also a section on biking with children and how to accommodate their needs and assessing their skill level.

I gave this article three stars because it was short but long enough to explain everything you would need to know about biking with your family. It did not get more because the author failed to provide personal or specific examples from a biking experience. I have not been biking for a few years now but reading this article has tempted me to get my bike out of the garage and take a bike ride with my dad. If i ever decide to go on a bike ride i will make sure to check back to the list in this article to make sure i have everything i need for a non-stressful experience. This article brought back memories of when i used to go biking with my sister all the time, but we always forgot to bring the necessities such as water and snacks or a cellphone if we got lost. This would be a great article for outdoor ed students to read before they start the mountain biking unit. Although it is different from family biking, it still discusses the important things to do before and during a bike ride.
