Black Bear Attack INSIDE womans home

(Report from August 2001)

Adelia Maestas Trujill was a 93 year old lady who lived alone. She had children so they often came to visit her to see how she was doing. One morning when her son went to visit her, he walked into her house to a gruesome discovery. He found his mother laying in a pool of blood on her kitchen floor.

What they think happened to Adelia was that she heard a disturbance during the night and went to see what it was. She went into her kitchen and saw at the screen door there was a 275lbs black bear. It pushed through the screen door and attacked and killed Adelia.

They say there is a food shortage for bears in New Mexico because of the drought in the summer so they are desperately searching for food.

This was the only attack known of the bear attacking someone inside her house.

The article was short, but goes to show that when a bear is looking for food, its instincts will kick in and he/she will see you as food and you could be in danger.
