London 2012: Top Runners File Appeal

London 2012: Top Runners File Appeal
Jenna Wootton

In this article London 2012: Top Runners File Appeal, Jenna Wootton explains how two Canadian marathon runners were stripped of there Olympic opportunity.

She states that according to the Globe these two Olympic hopefuls; Lanni Marchant and Krista Duchesne had reached the top 10 times ever ran by a Canadian runner. That then qualified them by Olympic standards, but they did not qualify by Canadian standards. They were only minutes short of reaches this. Because the girls did not pass Canadian standards there will be no female marathon runners representing Canada at the 2012 London Olympics.

In my opinion this was extremely unfair. They deserve a spot in the Olympics because they are the best in Canada. In the article it states that there are very few countries that even follow these standards in the first place.

This was a very interesting article, and I recommend it to anyone that is interested in the Olympics.
