Article assignment #1
The article that I chose for this assignment was “Bear Safety and Defense—Important Do’s and Don’ts”. It’s about proper safety techniques and guidelines to follow for bear encounters.
The article told us some major tips and techniques. It talked about avoidance of bears, how to react to the bear, good defense, and how to use a special bear repellant. It went into detail explaining that avoidance is the best strategy and often the law. If you have no choice a spray would be effective and a firearm would not.
I can relate to these tips because I often camp and may someday have a bear encounter. I realize the importance of bear safety and can use this article to educate myself. Being in the outdoors is only dangerous if you don’t know how to handle tough situations.
In closing I enjoyed the article and felt very educated after reading it. I would recommend it to anyone that hikes, camps, orienteer’s, or does any work outside in an area with bears.
