There is
great controversy about hiking alone. Some say its way to dangerous while
others believe it is peaceful and wonderful. This article states that it all depends
on how prepared you are.
This article
outlines important things to remember before and on your hike alone.
Kendra outlines tips like telling someone about where you are going, when you
are leaving, and when you are planning on coming back. This will ensure that if
something goes wrong, they will know where to find you. She also says to be
aware of your limits, take popular/well known trails, bring a whistle because
it will carry further than yelling and can be heard over wind and rain
conditions, check weather reports before you go on the trail, be bear aware,
don't wear headphones just in case there is a predator you will be able to hear
them in advance, bring lots of supplies, think through "what if
scenarios", and learn from past hikers experiences.
This article
has made me think about our portaging trip coming up and what I will do to
ensure we all stay safe. It has also made me think about the terrible things
that can happen and has happened to others before while doing these types
of activities. It has opened my eyes to be more prepared to make sure I will
always be safe in any situation I may come across. I will defiantly
use and think about all these tips on future adventures.
