After Whiteface, Just 45 More
Adirondack Peaks - Dave Brown
Rating: ***
After Whiteface was an interesting article. It offers you an
exciting and imposing challenge; to climb all 46 of the Adirondack peaks.
The article really succeeds in selling the idea of going to
the Adirondacks with a vivid description of all of the beauty and challenges
you will experience in the mountains. At first the challenge doesn’t seem so
tough, just a bit of hiking. Until, that is, that the author mentions that only
about half of the peaks have a beaten path that goes to the top. He suggests
Whiteface as a good starting point, as it is a fairly easy hike and it is comparatively
civilized.
The article caught my eye because I just recently went to
the Adirondacks and this was the first time that I had heard of the 46er club.
I enjoyed the article, not necessarily for the read, but because the challenge,
if done over the course of several years, would be completely doable but still
an extremely rewarding accomplishment. Especially since, only a handful of
people have ever accomplished the task.
I would recommend this article for anyone who is interested
in hiking and bragging rights.
