THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF CROSS COUNTRY SKIING

Cross country skiing may seem like a casual sport with little health benefits.  But many studies show that it is the sport that burns the most calories?  Hard to believe isn't it?  But when you think about it, nearly every muscle in your body is being worked.

This sport not only burns calories, but it works muscles very well.  You can choose to go slowly but have a steady pace, or you could go faster and heave an intense workout.  Every muscle group is being worked while cross country skiing.  Downhill skiing is also a good workout but it works mainly the leg muscles.  This activity is great for all ages, whether you use your skis as mode of transportation or you just like to sightsee.  If you are really going at it, you can even burn over a thousand calories in an hour.        You better have eaten a few energy bars before starting this workout.  There is no rush in this sport so you can take a break no problem.  Believe it or not, there is very little pressure on your joints while cross country skiing unlike running.

All around, this sport is great for sightseeing or maybe you are finding it hard to get lots of physical activity in the winter.
