How To Camp With Your Dog

Outdoor Ed Article Number 3

Adventures With Fido: How To Camp With Your Dog - Darren Bush

Rating: **** (Out of 5)

It is a very interesting article, and brings up several concerns with taking a dog camping that I would never have even considered. I recommend this for anyone who has ever wondered about this and is considering camping with their pet.

The article goes into quite a bit of detail about what to consider when planning a camping trip with your pooch. It covers training both in the physical sense and in terms of obedience. It addresses trail and campsite etiquette with a dog. It gave good advice on risk management and route planning, as well as any extra gear you may need to bring along for them.

While my own dog is getting a bit old for anything more exciting than car-camping, I always wondered how best to bring a dog along on a difficult journey. I had never really considered that a dog would need to be conditioned for a hike, or that they could carry their own kibble. Maybe one day I will be able to use these tips to take my own on a hike or canoe trip.
