In this article, Kevin Callan describes how to be a "happy camper" when it comes to meals. The author takes a group of college students from an ODE program and noticed their exceptional abilities to start fires and create sturdy shelters. However, he also seemed to notice that what they lacked, was the capability to create a healthy, nutritious that was easier to pack then the canned goods they planned on carrying around all trip. Kevin Callan goes through lighter alternatives that provide more health benefits and nutritional value such as pasta, rice, lentils and beans.
I really enjoyed this article because it provided information that I could benefit from. After realizing how hard meal planning can be from our first hiking trip, I wanted to learn more on what types of things we could bring along that didn't add a lot of extra weight but filled you up easily. I will definitely look back on this article the next time I will need to plan a meal.
