Across the Yukon in the Footsteps of Bonatti by Thumb and Paddle
By: Brook Sutton
Rating: ****
This article tells the story of a man
following in the footsteps of Bonatti who took a canoe trip across the Yukon.
It focusses on the culture he was exposed to, along with the struggles of being
alone.
Igor d’India was inspired by the trip
that Bonatti had taken. He hitchhiked 4,300 miles across Canada to reach his
destination, while meeting some interesting people along the way. He had no
technology (only for an emergency) as he planned to embark on this journey solo.
The only real company he had was from wildlife so he had to face the tough
situations alone, with no support. The weather in the Yukon proved to be an
issue when he had to cut his trip short, travelling only 870 miles instead of
the initial 1400 he had set out to accomplish.
I would fully recommend this article to
anyone who likes a good story or who would one day like to travel across a
country. It highlights key aspects that you should be aware of before embarking
in a large trip. It also exposes people to the world outside of our own little
bubble that many will hide behind. It is very eye opening and inspiring. This article included also a short video of the film that is being made about this trip, and it is truly a beautiful place. After
reading this article, I am more motivated to embark on a trip like this one in
the future.
