The story begins when Moniz reveals his goals for his journey and his previous experience traveling through the Himalayan mountains. Moniz and the group of climbers accompanying him are planning on climbing Everest, Lhotse and possibly making the first ski down the Lhotse Couloir. The article continues to describe the youngest climber’s (Matt Moniz) previous expedition through Tibet’s Cho Oyu and Everest. The first voyage presented several challenges such as natural disasters (avalanche) and weather conditions. Unfortunately, due to these obstacles, Moniz’s goal of climbing Everest was put on hold. Although he succeeded in climbing Cho Oyu, and Makalu, he was determined to take on the last challenge (Everest). Throughout the article, Moniz mentions that although there were many struggles that the team encountered, this only made them stronger. He realizes that this is what climbing is about - overcoming frustration, challenges and unpredictable obstacles.

Moniz’s story was enjoyable to read and invoked thoughtful reflection. I have learned that patience and dedication is vital in achieving your goals and the only way to fail is if you do not set any goals in the first place. This article has inspired me to push myself and to be ambitious when setting goals. “Teen Climber Returns to the Himalayas to Attempt Everest, Lhotse and First Ski Descent” is an inspirational article that encourages teens to overcome the obstacles in their life and to find solutions, rather then excuses when it comes to achieving their greatest aspirations.
