Article #1

Lovin' The Weed – Bob Izumi

Rating: *****

Lovin' The Weed is an article from the Real Fishing magazine based on the classic fishing TV show “Real Fishing” hosted by Bob Izumi.

This article is about the effectiveness of fishing weed beds and structures such as fallen over trees, matted grass and duck weed. This is most effective when fishing for predatory game fish such as both Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass, as well as Pike, Muskie and Walleye. In this article Bob explains that fishing search baits are a great way to catch multiple fish when they are active. “When the fishing gets tough”, he says, “to slow things down” by using the flipping and pitching method with a soft plastic bait such as a Berkley Powerbait Chigger Craw or any sort of soft bait that you can rig so that it becomes weedless. As Bob explains in this article, he grew up on Rondeau bay, a small bay off Lake Erie, that is jam packed with weeds. He learned how to be a very successful angler using the weeds and structures to his advantage by fishing the edges of the cover.

This article, and magazine, is a great resource for me to find out about new techniques and products that can help me become a better angler. I already knew about the importance of fishing the weeds, but this article made me think about using the pitching and flipping method, which I had never tried before. I know that the next time I'm out on the water, or just fishing from shore, I will try this method out and hopefully land a few fish.

I would recommend this magazine to anyone from the newest of fisherman, to the most veteran angler because in fishing, things are always changing.
