Ben Saunders: Youngest person to ski to the north pole

Ben Saunders: Youngest person to ski to the north pole
***

Ben Saunders is a role model to many Cross country skiers. His story is incredible and worth listening to.

May 11, 2004 Ben completed his solo ski to the north pole. Ben is the youngest of four people to ski solo to the north pole. From frostbite, polar bear attacks and low food supply, Ben had seen it all. For his first attempt he did not accomplish his journey to the pole as he planned because was running out of time and the water was starting to melt. On his second try, Saunder's new dream was to ski from the top of Russia to the pole and then down to Canada. Ben talks about his trip and his experiences while also mentioning his set backs.

I decided to watch this Ted Talk because it seemed like he had a really interesting and inspiring story to tell. I found this story relevant to our Outdoor Ed. class as we are now in the middle of our skiing unit. We learned about the two types of skiing and realised how much energy that is used while doing this sport. Ben Saunders skiied the equivalent of 31 marathons back to back. While in class we ski for about an hour and I was exhausted. Ben's story shows how much strength and motivation he had to accomplish his journey. Ben Saunders is a role model to many and an inspiration to all.
