In Praise of Day Trips - Tamia Nelson

Article Assignment #4

In Praise of Day Trips by Tamia Nelson
Rating - ***

This article was featured in Paddling.Net’s In the Same Boat section of their articles. It is an opinion piece, encouraging people to escape their day-to-day lives and go on a paddling trip. The writer knows this is not possible for everyone however and suggests the idea of weekend trips, and if that is too long still, than just a simple day trips. This article refers more to the mental relaxation and preparation of going on a day trip, and how to destress and put aside other responsibilities such as work or other related issues and just take some time for yourself. This article also touches base on human nature and how natural it is for us to look for familiarity or shy away from something not part of routine. It offers tips on how to expand your your mind to the larger world around you and start looking for more adventurous things to do, as well as to explore your area for new opportunities.

I love to be out on the water so this article definitely suited my needs as well as my interests. This article gives one time to reflect and realize how beneficial it can be to escape the commercialism of an urban area and retreat to the tranquility of something so simple as the outdoors.
