We just finished a orienteering unit so I think orienteering would be a good focus for this article.

Orienteering used to only be used for military training, at least until 1919 when sweden adopted orienteering as a pastime or sport. Within a few years, new compasses were designed for the purpose of aiding the new members in this new sport. About thirty or so people became well known orienteering experts.

Before reading this article, I didn't really understand how much people enjoyed and appreciated orienteering. I now appreciate the use of compasses, seeing as how people devoted their time into making a redesigned compass for the new sport. I will try to appreciate other sports from now on.
